Painting with different materials

Today we had lots of fun applying paint with sponges, pieces of card, toothbrushes, straws and
the wooden tip on a paintbrush.  Here are some of our results.

The Auckland Observatory

On Wednesday 4 September Rooms 14 and 18 hopped on to the bus and set off to The Stardome Observatory at the bottom of One Tree Hill.

Once we arrived there we met our teacher, Margaret (a Scottish lady),  in the foyer. She introduced herself and directed us into the theatre where we were going to watch a 3D movie called The Perfect Little Planet.

The robot who was the flight attendant showed the alien family around the solar system.  As they travelled from planet to planet we learnt about the gas giants, the rocky midgets and the dwarf planets.

After the movie, we had a tour in  our groups around the foyer area. We saw models of planets, telescopes, the black hole and other interactive activities.

Next we went into a classroom for the night and day session. Margaret used models of the earth the sun and the moon  to show us what happens.

Finally we went back to school on the bus after an interesting visit to the Stardome!

Charlotte's Report on Food and Digestion

Food and the Digestive System
Been feeling down lately? Think back to what you had for afternoon tea and how that could maybe affect your Digestive System. Keep reading, it might just help you.

To keep healthy, you need to eat a variety of foods. Go foods are foods from the ground. These foods are wheat, fruit and vegetables. These foods have carbohydrates in them. Make sure you eat plenty of these.

Slow down foods are dairy products, eggs and meat. Meat contains protein and iron. Make sure you have these foods, but not too much of them.

Stop foods contain lots of fat, sugar, salt, oil and preservatives. Another word for preservatives is additives. Some of these foods are cake, chocolate, potato chips and lollies.

When you eat these foods, you chew them with your mouth, taste them with your taste buds and mix them with your saliva. They then enter the food tube called the oesophagus. From the oesophagus they go to the stomach. In the stomach they are churned and turned into tiny bits. From there they travel to the small intestine where they are broken down into tiny microscopic bits. The tiny microscopic bits enter the blood. From the blood they travel all around your body.

I hope you take on board some of these tips and facts to get a healthier you!

Writing Paragraphs

We are learning to write paragraphs we use a set of traffic lights to help us!

Green light is the Topic Sentence and is the first sentence in a paragraph, it tells us what the paragraph will be about.
Orange light is the Supporting Sentences which add detail and they need to be about your topic.
Red light is the Ending Sentence which closes your paragraph, it means that your paragraph is finished.

Here are Haley's and Amy's paragraphs:

On Saturday I played netball with my team.
In my team there are 7 girls and 1 girl with a broken  arm. We were versing Willowbank. They were the top of the table and we were second to last.  I played GA, GD and C. I loved playing netball even though it was pouring down with rain and my partner for GA was twice the height of me.

Netball

On Saturday I played a game of netball. Our team played Willowbank. They were top of the table and we are about in the middle of the table, but the bad news was that we lost. The score was 36 nil. However, I still enjoyed the game.
